Diversity in the curriculum
One way the Duke curriculum supports diversity by requiring students to take
two “cross cultural” courses,
with the goal of enhancing
their abilities to evaluate complex issues from multiple perspectives
and promoting responsible attention to diversity-related issues.
Many Duke departments and programs also offer courses and independent study opportunities in areas of non-Western culture.
These departments, among many at the university, offer majors and/or certificates:
African and African American Studies (major and minor)
Asian and African Languages and Literature (major or certificate)
Canadian Studies (major or minor)
International Comparative Studies (major or minor)
