How can you help? Earthquake hits Port-Au-Prince, Haiti
On Tuesday, January 12, 2010, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti shortly before 5:00 p.m. that evening. There is no estimate as to how many have been pronounced dead or wounded, but an American Red Cross spokeswoman warned that “up to 3 million people may have been affected.”

New faculty at Duke
This year, 275 regular-rank faculty members arrived on campus, including 87 tenured and tenure-track faculty members. One came from China with an interest in the Amazon. Another learned her passion for politics on the campaign trail in Arkansas. A third is a Pulitzer Prize winner who is helping to take journalism into the computer age. All followed their own unique paths to Duke.
